During a class discussion this is how it went

The original discussion question was

Now that you are a responsible adult/citizen ...sorry if I am the one to give you the bad news ~( ;.( )   What assumptions about news, research, facts or figures have you in your mind ~ debunked?

My answer:

I used to believe everything that was projected in the news, I even believed that if someone was arrested that they probably did the crime.  After all, don’t they need a ton of evidence prior to arresting someone?  Of course that was prior to becoming a responsible adult/citizen.  Now that I am no longer a teenager I now know that facts and figures are only as good as the person stating them and the research that they did.  I also know that the judicial system is highly suspect and not always accurate.  I also realize that politics play a lot in whether something is indeed true or not.  I liked being a teenager with less to think about.  This responsible adulthood….well sometimes it’s not all that its cracked up to be.

They say if you live long enough and experience alot of things - nothing surprises you any more.

Somewhere, though, our childlike natures reside buried under tons of reality.

One of my classmates came along and said a most wonderful thing because dang if he didn’t go ahead and do some lyrical quoting….I love that…..love it.

He said:

the world is beautiful and its also what we make of it.  i believe
example and be a very powerful tool in life.  live your life the way you
want others to live it!  in other words if your a thief, dont complain
because their is too much stealing and so on....  there is a song by
Depeche Mode (im aging myself) called "New Dress".
some of the words go...

You can't change the world
But you can change the facts
And when you change the facts
You change points of view
If you change points of view
You may change a vote
And when you change a vote
You may change the world

interesting huh?  :)

I interact with virtual strangers in an effort to learn and grow as a person. Sometimes it’s not all that entertaining or fun. Sometimes an online class is boring and people drone on with no personality.  And then sometimes….you get a good crew that just takes off.

I’m going to love this course.
